Christmas Preparations

Photos and Story by Christine Cawley
Edited by Jennifer Gill

Do you see what I see?
Do you see what I see?
Way up in the sky, zooming by?
A store, a store, calling unto me
With my tail wagging to the left n right

With my tail wagging to the left n right

It came upon Old Pasadena
That glorious smell of old,
From puppies bending near the earth
With news of joy foretold

O come, all ye faithful,
Joyful and triumphant,
Come ye, O come ye to Three Dog Bakery!

Joy to the world! The store is found!
Let Rocket receive his treat!
Let every dog,
Prepare his plate,
And dogs and cats can sing
and dogs and cats can sing
and dogs and cats and all can sing!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev’rywhere you go;
But the prettiest sight to see are the chew toys that will be in my own two paws!

Good tidings to you,
And all of your kin,
Good tidings for Christmas,
And a Happy New Year.

What a bright time, it’s the right time
To wait in line today!

Jingle bell time is a swell time
To go begging next to Cooper today

I’ll have a blue Christmas without you
I’ll be so blue just thinking about you
Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree
Won’t be the same Mom, if you’re not here with me.

Giddy-yap giddy-yap giddy yap
let’s go
Let’s look at the bones
We’re waiting in a doggie line for bones

Dog treats bling
are you drooling?
In the bag
bones for chewing!
A beautiful sight,
we’re happy tonight,
thinking of chewing I'll be doing!

O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging
O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree,
Thy leaves are so unchanging

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Let there be Light: Rocket Goes to UCLA

Story and Photos by Christine Cawley

Today Rocket and I explored a new area in the morning hours. Later in the day the temperatures went beyond 100°! UCLA, the most applied to university in the nation was our destination. "Let there be light" is their motto.

UCLA is a century old. It was originally on Vermont Avenue where the Los Angeles City College now resides. Let's explore!

Rocket loved it when we found a nice grassy area. He rolled around on the grass in front of Kerckhoff Hall. Named after a successful lumber and energy magnate who funded this student union building.

Rocket was enjoying himself while he pranced past the Fowler Museum. They explore global art and cultures. The museum is free and looked inviting!

Rocket had fun running up the stairs and then hopped up over the stair wall to enjoy more trees and grass.

Rocket looks like a hip dog who he can play an acoustic guitar and sing ballads about peace and love.

We ended up climbing the stairs again and found another commons area, the library, and Royce Hall.  A golden retriever was finishing up her walk and came over to say good morning.

Rocket cooled off. Who needs to use an entire fountain when there is a puddle handy!

We walked alongside Royce Hall, where in the 1930s one could hear Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, and Jimmy Dorsey's Band play. Since then the list of musical legends, performers, and U.S. presidents who have visited the hall continues to grow. It is one of America's greatest concert halls. Over one of the doors it reads, "The world is a progressively realized community of interpretation." -- Royce

We walked back toward the car and Rocket ran and chased squirrels. We waved good-bye to the bear statue and found the car. Now the night has arrived and it is just beginning to cool down. Etta James is playing and Rocket and I are stretched out, keeping cool.

Bow-wow at the Bowl

Story and Photos by Christine Cawley
Edited by Jennifer Gill

It is quiet here now and Rocket and I are still recouping from our wild weekend with hiking, playing, and hanging with "da dawgs."

Rocket was quite content to lie around all day while generous petting was being doled out.

I wondered if he would want to go and explore again since we played so hard the last couple of days but that Rocket has a lot of vigor! He eagerly headed to the car.  Pimp Daddy wanted to cruise, Baby!

It is always fun to be alone at a place where there are normally thousands of people attending a function. Rocket was curious when we pulled up and began to explore.  It's the Hollywood Bowl!

We headed up some of the ramps where season ticket holders go after they have had their wine and picnic meals.

Rocket posed to help promo his upcoming performance.  You are out of town, so you can't see that his name is on the marquee announcing his act.

Rocket has hit the big time!

Rocket did a run-thru and sound check before the guests arrive.

Okay, it was fun to pretend to be a big star!  He ran across the lot filled with energy after his performance at the Hollywood Bowl.

Rocket politely waited for me.  Such a gentleman!

That little fella was playing peek-a-boo!

He is standing so regally here.  I almost saluted him.

After Rocket's grand performance at the Hollywood Bowl, we headed back to the pad.  He was disappointed to see that I was going to do homework instead of more belly rubbing for him.

Okay, no one can resist that face!  We are going to hang out and relax before bed.

Looks like someone is going to need a b-a-t-h when Mama gets home!

Another Bob & King Day

Story and Photos by Christine Cawley
Edited by Jennifer Gill

Rocket was very happy to head out into the world today.  He was very wound up and could not get to the car fast enough.  To help release some of that energy we pulled over to a neighborhood park that is famous for doggie pow-wows.  The smells of information would be as thick as a novel!

Before Rocket could scope anything out, these two bookends came running over to greet the park newbie.

Rocket found all the smells and began to peruse their messages.

He must of found some good news because Rocket ran and ran and ran all around the park.  Anyone who looked up and saw the puffy white cloud blowing by found a smile spreading across their face.

Now that he had his fun we went back into the car and tooled around.  He showed no particular interest in where we were driving until...We ended up on short winding roads that seemed unfamiliar to Rocket.  He popped his head to attention, intrigued with the route.

It's fun to go to different places and see what toys and stories one can share while there.

Rocket remembered his big friends, Bob and King as they rushed out to greet him.

Before, when we were doing serious hiking, they did not have a chance to goof off.  Now was the time. Rocket raced around the yard and Bob whom always recognizes play, raced behind him.

King too was interested and joined in on the bunny hop line.

Of course afterwards, I needed help in the kitchen and all three dogs lined up.  King was afraid I would put him on pan scrubbing duty.  Bob was hoping for being the quality food checker.  And Rocket was hoping to do a small number to entertain us all before, after, or during any moment.

Would you believe I was doing an amazing juggling act with sharpened (of course) kitchen knives and the boys were glued to talented feat!  Rocket and I may go on tour next month! Okay, maybe I exaggerate a wee bit.

Rocket and Bob enjoyed their time together.

Rocket had fun running and barking when they thought something was worthwhile to bark about.

We at first stayed with the boys and later hung out with the people too.  It was nice sitting around and relaxing together.  Rocket had a full day and is sleeping now.

It's a good thing because tomorrow is a new day!
